Places to Visit
N Seoul Tower
The N Seoul Tower’s upper levels provide indoor and outdoor viewing rooms as well as eateries. The tower’s façade is covered in LED lights, which are lit at night in seasonal light shows. A cable car transports you from the city (near Myeongdong) to the tower’s base region. You may then trek from here. After climbing the mountain and riding the cable car, take time to visit Namsan Hanok Village. These conserved historic towns, spread around Seoul and Korea, are recreations of historical Korean communities. This village contains five restored hanoks, or traditional Korean dwellings.
Seoraksan National Park
This beautiful natural paradise contains mountains, lakes, waterfalls, streams, and miles of hiking routes to explore. This park is noted for its natural richness, with over 1,500 distinct animal species and 1,000 different types of plants. There are also two Buddhist temples in the park, one of which is renowned as the “Temple of a Hundred Pools” because of the numerous ponds around it that are fed by mountain streams. When you’re weary of wandering, you may take a cable car up Seoraksan Mountain for spectacular views of the mountains and valleys. It takes roughly four hours by bus or three hours by vehicle to get to the park from Seoul.
Lotte World
There is an amusement park right in the heart of downtown Seoul. It’s a pleasant spot to spend the day and an opportunity to immerse oneself in authentic Korean commercial culture. Lotte World features a hotel, movie theaters, a folk museum featuring traditional performances, and other activities such as ice skating. This theme park is located at the base of the Lotte World Tower, South Korea’s tallest structure and the fifth highest in the world. Inside the tower, there are many viewing places and activities, as well as a luxury hotel and a variety of retail and dining options. A visit is enjoyable for both children and adults, and in addition to the rides and attractions, there is plenty of shopping, artists’ workshops, and cultural shows to see.
Restaurants
Anju Maeul
The quaint wooden area is constantly packed with drinkers, and there used to be an endless line of people waiting for their turn by the entrance; today, there’s a kiosk that accepts bookings and sends you SMS notifications. The handwritten menu’s standout item is seasonal seafood. Try the seasonal sashimi, and the tofu topped with salted herring roe is a popular choice. Don’t wait to order; some things sell out in minutes, so you may not have a second opportunity.
Eunjujeong
Eunjujeong used to specialize in pork belly, but it is now well-known for its kimchi jjigae, which is served as a lunchtime special and as a side dish with pig belly dinners. Pots packed with uncooked pork and spicy, acidic kimchi await guests at each table; they cook in minutes, but keep yours boiling for longer to make the soup even more flavorful. Eunjujeong is unusual in that it offers ssam, a selection of green vegetables, to wrap chunky chunks of meat from the jjigae, as well as a vending machine where you may buy different noodles to add to your soup.
Geumdwaeji Sikdang
Geumdwaeji has only been operating for a little more than six years, but it is already the best barbecue restaurant in town, particularly for pig belly. Even during the pandemic, Geumdwaeji gained global attention for being a popular supper place for celebrities. Geumdwaeji’s pork is aged and grilled on a cast iron grill over briquettes, so it’s juicy and rich with a chewy texture. Meanwhile, the acidic, meaty kimchi jjigae is so popular that Nongshim, Korea’s top instant noodles maker, recently announced a partnership with Geumdwaeji.
